American scholar study found that endocarditis-associated glomerulonephritis (GN) is the most common manifestation of acute kidney injury (AKI), and concurrent Staphylococcus aureus tricuspid infection. 49 patients (male: female = 3.5: 1) with an average age of 48 years were enrolled to update the cognition of GN associated with infective endocarditis.
American scholar study found that endocarditis-associated glomerulonephritis (GN) is the most common manifestation of acute kidney injury (AKI), and concurrent Staphylococcus aureus tricuspid infection. The paper was published in the journal "International Kidney Int" on January 21.
49 patients (male: female = 3.5: 1) with an average age of 48 years were enrolled to update the cognition of GN associated with infective endocarditis.

As a result, endocarditis related GN is the most common manifestation of AKI. More than half of the patients had no known cardiac abnormalities before. The most common comorbidities were heart valve disease (30%), intravenous drug addiction (29%), hepatitis C (20%) and diabetes (18%). Heart valve infection for the tricuspid valve, mitral and aortic valve were 43%, 33% and 29%. Two of the most common infections were Staphylococcus aureus (53%) and Streptococcus (23%). Patients with low complementosis were 56% and 28% positive for anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA). The most common renal biopsy was found for necrosis and crescent GN (53%). All cases had significant C3 deposition .
